I chose to draw this cool looking rooster because I absolutely love the transitions of colors in his tail feathers. It was such a delight to use a full range of color on him and I had so much fun!
I use the highest quality professional art materials. To get those smooth colors, I used Faber-Castel Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils. These pencils are oil-based.
The paper is Strathmore Bristol Vellum, which is a thick paper (300g) with a good texture which allows me to place many layers of pigment on.
In order to get a painting-effect, I use 6-11 layers of pigments which smooth into a glossy effect once all the tooth of the paper is covered. Most of my drawings of this size take me 10-16 hours to complete.
