Chick hatching from egg original colored pencil drawing
Chick hatching from egg original colored pencil drawing
I took the original picture used for this drawing. I used to raise chickens and this chick was having difficulties hatching because a humidity drop shrink-wrapped her into the shell. I do not normally assist, but this was really a measure of last resort. This chick survived and grew up healthy with a silly personality.
This is not a very good image of my drawing! The background is simply the original white of the paper and the drawing is very delicate with soft, gentle colors, giving you the feeling of fragility.
I use the highest quality professional art materials. To get those smooth colors, I used Faber-Castel Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils. These pencils are oil-based.
The paper is Strathmore Bristol Vellum, which is a thick paper (300g) with a good texture which allows me to place many layers of pigment on.
In order to get a painting-effect, I use 6-11 layers of pigments which smooth into a glossy effect once all the tooth of the paper is covered. Most of my drawings of this size take me 10-16 hours to complete.
